A spectator, circling a work of art, is constantly experiencing something new. Short moments of stillness are supplanted by movement. Perhaps it is the work of art that is moving as a function of the spectator’s action? But it is impossible to perceive a sculpture from just one point of view: looking at it has too be connected with the watcher’s change of position, circling, moving, wandering about in space. When an artist’s work does not provide a sense of centre, hierarchy, culmination the walk starts to resemble a hike on winding paths of an 18th century English garden. The work of art expansively crosses its physical borders, it repeals gravity. It is worth to look at the works of Katarzyna Kobro, Magdalena Abakanowicz, Dan Graham, Bridget Riley, Anna Orlikowska from different points of view: each of them will reveal something else…
