Artists for Muzeum
The forthcoming week of preparations for the opening of ms² will be marked by completion of the projects connected with the new space of Muzeum Sztuki.
The authors of the projects, created with an exterior mass and immediate surroundings of ms² in mind, are the artists invited by Muzeum Sztuki. Miroslaw Bałka designed a neon sign which will be located on the second floor level and will be visible from Ogrodowa Street. It will be made up of letters inspired by Strzemiński’s concept of alphabet. The project by Jarosław Kozakiewicz, in turn, will be situated by the main entrance to the building, on the side of Manufaktura square. His alternative Door to the Museum is a few-metre steel construction repeating the shape of a blank arcade on the facade of ms². The artist decided to emphasize the qualities characteristic of a post-industrial building.
Jakub Stępień ‘Hakobo’ created a system of visual identification for ms² - modern and appealing to the avant-garde tradition of Muzeum. The use of simple black forms will make the building stand out from the surroundings of the shopping mall. The new logo of the three branches of Lodz Muzeum will become an essential element of identification, too. Its author, Hakobo, referred to the best traditions of avant-garde typography to, paradoxically, achieve an effect of modernity.
The projects make a good start to further activities connected with the building where Muzeum is going to invite artists successively. The works will become a part of the Collection of the 20th and 21st Century Art.
