Side by Side. Poland - Germany. A 1000 Years of Art and History

The exhibition Side by Side. Poland – Germany. A 1000 Years of Art and History can be seen at Martin-Gropius-Bau in Berlin. The exhibition has been organised in connection with Polish Presidency of the EU Council. The project’s author and the exhibition’s curator is Anda Rottenberg. The project has been supervised by a board of experts headed by Prof. Władysław Bartoszewski.

The thousand years of Polish-German relations have been illustrated with approximately 800 exhibited works of art, objects of material culture and documents gathered and displayed in 19. The division of the exhibition into 22 thematic parts serves a better understanding of various aspects of the complex history of Polish-German proximity.

All exhibits on loan for the exhibition testify to cultural connections between Poland and Germany. Thay have been made available by over 200 people and institutions from all over Europe, including: the National Museum in Warsaw, Muzeum Sztuki in Łódźi, British Museum in London, Museum of Art History in Vienna w Wiedniu and the Vatican Library. An extensive publication accompanying the project includes a text on the international significance of the "a.r." group and the role of its most remarkable gesture: the founding of the collection of European avant-garde and donating it to the Łódź Museum.
