Curator-led tour of the exhibition Suzanne Treister: Prophetic Dreaming

At 1:00 pm, we will meet with Gabriela Sitek, curator of the exhibition at the Muzeum Sztuki in Łódź. During the tour, Gabriela Sitek will introduce the concept of the exhibition and the key themes of Suzanne Treister’s practice - the work of a pioneer of digital, internet and new media art. She will discuss the works on display, their contexts, and the ways in which, for more than four decades, the artist has used art to explore the relationships between technology, society, power, science and alternative belief systems.

The tour will offer an opportunity to look closely at both Treister’s early projects, such as Video Games Paintings (1989–1991) and Software (1993–1994), and her most recent works, including the tarot deck HEXEN 5.0 (2023–2025). Particular attention will be given to the ways in which Treister combines an analysis of the present with the imagining of possible future scenarios.

The tour will provide an opportunity to experience the exhibition from a curatorial perspective and to gain a deeper understanding of Suzanne Treister’s multifaceted practice, rich in unexpected connections and associations.

Opening event for children and adolescents

How might the future look? Can it be predicted, or is it better to imagine it? During this special event for children and adolescents, we will explore Suzanne Treister’s exhibition using tarot cards, imagination, conversation and collective action. The event has been designed for two age groups. Younger children will create their own collaborative tarot deck inspired by the exhibition, while older participants will take part in a discussion inspired by the HEXEN 5.0 cards - Suzanne Treister’s latest project, in which the artist combines tarot symbolism with reflections on artificial intelligence, the climate crisis and the future.

Programme:

12:30 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. - guided tour of the exhibition. The tour will take place in two age groups:

  • Ages 4-10
  • Ages 11+

1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. - Workshop activities:

  • Ages 4-10 - Education Room: A Collaborative Tarot Deck
Participants will create their own tarot cards, which will come together to form a unique deck inspired by the exhibition and their ideas and visions of the future.
  • Ages 11+ - Exhibition Space: A Debate Inspired by HEXEN 5.0
A conversation about the future, technology and the questions raised by Suzanne Treister’s work.

2:00 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. - a meeting with video game classics
In the Education Room, a selection of retro arcade machines will be waiting for participants. Come and play iconic games and discover what digital entertainment looked like long before today’s consoles and smartphones.
